Western Pet Supply began doing business over thirty years ago, founded by our current owners; Bill & Julie Williams. The idea took fruition in their garage when they made the decision to create a cedar pet bed for their golden retriever Boohn. They simply couldn’t find any pet beds on the market that met the specifications that they desired.
Before they knew it requests from friends, neighbors and local retailers started pouring in and they were filling orders in the thousands. In 1988, they opened the first Western Pet Supply store on Scholls Ferry Road in Portland, Oregon, while continuing to create their original cedar pet beds in the back of the store. That facility quickly became far too small for their growing business and in 1996 they moved the store to it’s current location on Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway.
At Western Pet Supply, our aim is to provide the highest level of service and satisfaction to our customers. We strive to provide as much information to our customers as we possibly can to help them make an informed decision. We are not salespeople. We are pet people. All of our staff has a passion to be the best at what we do.
We’re proud to say that our family here at Western Pet Supply is committed to excellence. We have numerous years of pet related experience between everyone on our staff. We’re fortunate to have such an extension knowledge base to cull from. We can tackle everything from dog and cat information to fish & reptile facts and pretty much everything in between, furry or not so furry! And if we can’t find you an immediate answer, we will do our best to track the information down for you. Please call us or stop by today.
We would be more than happy to look into special ordering that item for you! Sure we’re a big store, but unfortunately we just don’t have the ability to stock everything. We do not charge any additional fees for special orders. Depending on the item and where it comes from it may take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to get in, so please contact us for more information.
When is your shot clinic?
Every Sunday from 2:30 to 4:00pm. If we are closed due to a holiday then there would likely be no shot clinic that day. The shot clinic is provided by Good Neighbor Vet.
Do you sell any live pets?
We do not sell any live animals at all. Instead we are more than willing to offer up contact information for one of the many adoption and rescue groups in the Portland area. There are a lot of loving critters out there in need of equally loving homes. Here are a few groups that we have established good relationships with that have adoptable pets:
Columbia County Humane Society.
Cat Adoption Team
Do you have more than one store?
At this time we only have our one location in the Raleigh Hills area of Portland.
Do you sell prescription diets for my cat/dog?
Unfortunately we do not have access to any of the prescription lines at this time. That being said, if you are able to bring an ingredient listing in we would be more than happy to help you find something comparable in our store if it is available.
What flea treatments do you sell? Do I need a prescription for them?
We currently stock both Frontline Plus and Advantage. There is no prescription needed to purchase them at our store. Please give us a call for our current pricing.
What is your return policy?
Most items carry a 30 day return policy, as long as you keep the original packaging and receipt. There are some exceptions to that such as cat furniture, crates and beds, and a few other items which only have a 48 hour guarantee. Anything beyond those limits will typically be subject to a 20% restocking fee. See in-store for more details. Food and other edible products are guaranteed by the manufacturer(s) and we stand behind their guarantee(s) 100%. If your pet won’t eat it, simply return it with the original packaging.
We currently provide pet training classes at our facility. We work exclusively with Barbara Tuler of The Pet Consultants. She provides a six week training class. Barbara has over 25 years of training experience and has worked with all sorts of behavioral problems. She can be contacted directly for more information on this class at 503-646-1442.
Information about these classes:
These classes are great for dogs 4 months and older who need to learn some manners. Basic obedience classes are also recommended for dogs who just need a refresher course and for rescue and newly adopted dogs who would also benefit from a basic obedience course. In this 6 weeks course, your dog will learn to walk nicely on a loose leash, sit, stay, come, and lie down. The leave it, drop, and look at me commands will be addressed. Jumping up, leash aggression, biting, mouthing , chewing, digging, and barking will be discussed with available solutions. Dogs will also benefit from distraction training and group socialization. Classes emphasize fun and practical obedience for everyday living. The classes are taught with a positive approach so that you can see the good in your dog.
